Title: MLB August 2005 Discussion:
Description: Feel the Heat... or see Ice cold teams
Scrooge McSuck - August 1, 2005 05:29 AM (GMT)
;) Let's see how we are into August...
NL East: The Washington Expos have collapsed enough to give Atlanta a comfortable lead for the time being, and everyone else is still above .500.
NL Central: The Cardinals still rule, the Astro are Lazerous-ing up, and the Pirates suck.
NL West: The division sucks. 'Nuff said. When John Kruk writes you off, you really do suck.
AL East: Baltimore has collapsed enough to give Boston a comfortable lead for the time being, with the Yankees and Blue Jays ahead of them now. Watch out for the red hot Tampa Bay. ;)
AL Central: White Sox rule, Twins aren't winning nothing, and everyone else can go to hell.
AL West: How 'bout them A's? Rangers suck, and has anyone even said the words "Seattle" and "Mariners" this season?
Edit: Feel my stupidity... I said August 2004, not 2005. :P
S.T. Strickler - August 1, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
'Cause the O's are free, free fallin'.
Damn do they suck.
Scrooge McSuck - August 1, 2005 02:32 PM (GMT)
John Kruk for once made a good point. He was talking about how everyone hates Boston and New York for winning all the time, but this year both are vulnerable, and what did all of the competition do before the trade deadline came and went? Absolutely nothing, unless you call getting rid of Larry Bigbie for Eric Byrnes helping.
S.T. Strickler - August 1, 2005 03:04 PM (GMT)
Eww.. July was a really bad month for Baltimore: 8-18.
April: 16-7
May: 15-13
June: 12-15
July: 8-18
Am I sensing a trend? Hopefully not. The pitching and hitting needs to get back on track..
And just for reference, let's look at last year:
April: 12-9
May: 12-14
June: 8-19
July: 14-14
August: 13-15
September: 18-10
October: 1-3
Scrooge McSuck - August 1, 2005 03:35 PM (GMT)
How about that Brian Roberts you were jerking off to? July numbers... something around a .210 batting average, and barely over .300 OBP. That's fucking pathetic for an "MVP candidate." Thats roughly the same kind of stats for Tino Martinez all season.
S.T. Strickler - August 1, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
I believe the whole team came back down to earth in July.. If they don't do well in August, Baltimore might as well forget September.
Scrooge McSuck - August 1, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
Here's a real radical idea for Baltimore management: Dump Sammy Sosa. He's a worthless piece of crap these days, his best years are far away in his rear-view mirror, and he just doesn't come across as the guy you want to throw tons of money at, considering his age and increasing limitations.
S.T. Strickler - August 1, 2005 04:00 PM (GMT)
They should've kept Hairston, and never traded for Sammy Sosa.. Thank god it's for this year only. Don't resign him after the season, and find someone else that can hit.
S.T. Strickler - August 4, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
Ok, I have came to this conclusion. After last night's 8-4 loss to the Angels, I will NOT watch another Orioles game this season until they start winning again. And I don't mean a 3 game win streak. I'm talking about consistently, as in winning games out the whazoo and not having these embarassing losing streaks. So until then, I won't be watching Comcast or MASN for Orioles games. And to think I would subject myself to watching the O's in person at one of their games.. The team doesn't even deserve my money for a couple of tickets.
Thank you Peter Angelos.. No wait... F*CK YOU!
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
How about those Devil Rays? One of the hottest teams since the all-Star Break, on a 6-game winning streak (although beating the Royals isn't that big of an accomplishment) and finally out of the basement in the American League standings. They have provided their horrible pitching (correction: horrible bullpen) with a lot of run support for the last few weeks, which is a big plus for such a good month.
S.T. Strickler - August 4, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)
Let me add to my statement: I won't watch an O's game on TV, but I will catch the score online. That's it. When they start winning again, then I'll care. At this date, they're about to match last year's record. Unfortunately, they're going the wrong way.
Real F'n Show - August 4, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
Good god are my Twinkies struggling. Losing Hunter doesn't help, and we haven't been able to score runs for whatever reason. I feel sorry for our pitching staff.
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 05:41 PM (GMT)
Eh, Minnesota will pull through this struggle. Just look at how Baltimore and San Diego bounced back.... oh wait, nevermind. :D
S.T. Strickler - August 4, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
What the O's and Padres have in common: Losing records
What they don't have in common: O's in 4th place (51-56), Padres in 1st (52-55).
Ding Dong, the manager is gone. I just read on the Orioles' site that Lee Mazzili has been let go, and now Sam Perlozzo is now the interim manager. I can only hope he does a good job.
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
That's bullshit. All of a sudden it's the managers fault his players can't play better than a bunch of 8 year old girls who fail Gym class. I don't like the Orioles much, but this sucks. Of course you can't fire the players, so the manager, who can't control the talent of his players, is first.
<---just read this on ESPN's scrolling bar where it said breaking news and was about to post the same thing. :)
dynamite kido - August 4, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
Well at least since the Palmerio incident the O's have seemed to totally wig out...........
S.T. Strickler - August 4, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
If anything should be done, the GMs should be fired (no disrespect to great pitcher Jim Flanigan), and Angelos should sell the team to someone who actually cares.
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
Sell it to the guy who literally fucked the Montreal Expos out of existance... and into Washington.
S.T. Strickler - August 4, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
And who would that be? MLB?
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
... No, the guy who owned the Expos, sold away all of their talent for crap minor leaguers, and basically left them for dead.
Mad Dog - August 4, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, firing the manager was pretty dumb. It's not his fault that Palmeiro got busted for roids or that management keeps bringing in washed up guys like Sosa instead of quality pitching.
eStragand - August 4, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Managers have a say towards incoming personnel. Off-season acquistions, call-ups and trades aren't forced on them by Some Guy Behind a Desk in a Polo Shirt. Well....usually...
Hoping Lloyd McClendon is the next manager to get axed. He'd make an okay coach somewhere, but he's not management material.
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
One of the managers from the NL West has to be bite the bullet sooner or later, considering how horrible that division is. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Mariners cut... whoever it is is their manager.
Real F'n Show - August 4, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
What bugs me about the Mariners is how they go out and buy all these bats, completely disregarding their terrible pitching staff. Jamie Moyer and Gil Meche ain't gonna cut it. They'd be smart to get some actual pitching on that team in the offseason, to complement Beltre, Sexson, etc.
Scrooge McSuck - August 4, 2005 11:06 PM (GMT)
They can have all the pitchers they want from the Yankees, cause if I were Steinbrenner, I'd fire them all.
eStragand - August 5, 2005 05:00 PM (GMT)
So, ummm...watched a little bit of a Rockies game over the weekend. If you guys have MLB Extra Innings, you need to check out the Rox play-by-play men for some great unintentional humor. They gave up all hopes of calling competitive, significant games years ago...so now they talk about how "each guy plays the game".
It's never ending. The latest Worthless Rock will come to the plate, batting .211 and the announcers will give him a verbal blow-job. Like "wow, you REALLY have to admire this guy's approach to the game and how he plays! He shows up everyday and the coaches just LOVE the way he goes about his business". Meanwhile, the guy's just struck out and stranded a man on base. and the team is getting skull-fucked by a score of 9-2 in the 6th.
Next batter, SAME thing...but they'll mix it up a bit: "Y'know, you really have to appreciate this guy's play and the way he approaches the game". Sometimes they'll launch into "all you youngsters at home should really take note of how Aaron Miles ran out that groundball". It wasn't a routine 4-3 gound out by your #2 hitter, it was an INSPIRATION TO THE YOUTH OF COLORADO!
I'm sure they all Look Good in Their Uniforms, too!!
Scrooge McSuck - August 5, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
Price of Jaws the Revenge on DVD: $5.50 before negotiation
$2 package of Hot Dogs in a 7-11: $5.38
Issue of latest Mad Magazine: $4.50 (CHEAP!)
Colorado Rockies Broadcast Team Phoning It In: Priceless
S.T. Strickler - August 6, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Well, I must say that the current Perlozzo era is getting off to a good start.. Yesterday, Baltimore beat Anaheim 4-1, and tonight, they beat Texas 10-5.. That's two in a row, win another one and that's a winning streak.
Points to anyone who catches the Major League 2 reference.
However, I'm still standing by my statement that I won't watch another game until they play at a consistent level.
Scrooge McSuck - August 6, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I got the joke, but "2" was a winning streak according to Lou. I'd rather here his "excuse" rant which results in him having a heart attack.
Real F'n Show - August 6, 2005 03:19 AM (GMT)
Twins put up a 12 spot in a HAWHOMPING of the Red Sox. Maybe the bats are coming alive for good...
eStragand - August 6, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
ah..is very bad to steal Jobu's rum...very bad
S.T. Strickler - August 8, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Well, the O's dropped two straight to the Rangers. They finally have an off-day, which they should use to their fullest. Ponson and Surhoff are injured. Perlozzo is now 2-2 as O's manager.. And I'm still standing by my stance by not watching any Orioles games on TV until the play more consistently. By the looks of it, I won't be watching anytime soon.
Real F'n Show - August 8, 2005 03:29 AM (GMT)
Strickler, I know the frustration you're feeling, I'm going through the same thing as a Twins fan. The Twins showed signs of life over the weekend, but I think it's too little, too late.
Scrooge McSuck - August 8, 2005 08:54 AM (GMT)
There's still 60 games on the season (give or take)... there's plenty of time for a streak of good luck and other teams ahead of them bad luck.
(prays for Oakland or LAA to get lost in the jungle for 2 months, thus taking them out of the standings)

Yeah, but your team knows how to win. The Twins have won 3 straight divisional titles. Baltimore has had 7 straight losing seasons.

True. I can't imagine how bad it must suck being in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox. Fans in Baltimore, Toronto, and Tampa Bay deserve more credit.
Scrooge McSuck - August 8, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
Baltimore haven't even lost to the Yankees and Red Sox that much in their horrible streak (didn't they take 3 of 4 from Boston before the AS break?). For example, they got swept in a series by Tampa F'N Bay, who were, at the time, the worst team in the Majors (by record only). Let's not say it's Boston & New Yorks fault that teams like Baltimore have tanked, because Baltimore's pitching has been piss-poor the last 2 months, and they deserved to lose.
Scrooge McSuck - August 10, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
Remind me to never watch the White Sox game on WGN ever again. Ugh.... nothing but dead air-time, verbal blowjobs for the most basic plays in baseball for their teams, and all around bias.
Big F'N Swigg - August 11, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
Hey scrooge, I'd just like to point out that the guy in your signature is the SECOND Yankees fan to do that.
And my wife wants a t-shirt that says "Real women don't date Yankees fans."
That's all
Scrooge McSuck - August 11, 2005 10:19 PM (GMT)
... Fuck you~! I'm making my own shirt.
"Real men aren't from Boston"
