FULL RESULTS FROM RING OF HONOR IN PHILADELPHIA, FEATURING DANIELS VS. PUNK
by Mike Johnson & Buck Woodward @ 11:50:00 PM on 7/23/2005

Mike Johnson was live at the Ring Of Honor event tonight at the National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and sent in the following results.

- El Generico pinned Kevin Steen with a backslide in the opening contest.

- Gary Michael Capetta informed Prince Nana that the Embassy would be fired if Nana physically abused Jade Chung again. Nana told her that if she wanted she could go back to Thailand, burying her family and
lifestyle. Chung said that things at home are bad, and she wanted to stay. Nana said that since ROH doesn't want him to be a "lion with the ladies", he wanted Mike Kruel to come out. They forced her to wear a blue smock to hide her body with the idea that fans would boo it. They covered her up and Nana said that since he can no longer physically touch her, he pulled out a leash and said he would treat her the way they do it in Ghana. Nana said the fans' wishes have come true and told her to open the ropes, holding the leash so she would yank her own neck as she walked towards the ropes.

- Spanky defeated Nigel McGuiness, Deranged, and Azrieal in Four Way Match.

- BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs defeated The Carnage Crew to win the ROH Tag Team Title when Whitmer pinned Devito have a combination powerbomb out of the corner by Whitmer/Acid Drop by Jacobs.

- Ring Of Honor announced they would return of Philadelphia on October 2nd.

- Homicide, Low Ki & Ricky Reyes defeated Samoa Joe, James Gibson & Jay Lethal in the best match thus far tonight. Homicide pinned Gibson after nailing him with a lariat with a chain wrapped around his arm. The babyfaces did a triple dive at one point. The crowd chanted "Jamie" as they left.

- The Ring Crew Express vs. Davey Andres & Shane Hagadorn never took place, as The Carnage Crew attacked the Ring Crew Express as they made their entrance and destroyed them with weapons.

- Alex Shelley & Fast Eddie Vegas defeated Roderick Strong & Jack Evans. Alex Shelley announced his mystery partner was Fast Eddie Vegas with Shelley apologizing to everyone for his actions as a member of Generation Next, saying it got him nowhere. He then announced he didn't buy out, but he was buying in. Shelley was announced as the new member of the Embassy. Austin Aries is sporting a crewcut now. Jimmy Rave hit the ring to assist the Embassy. The Embassy beat down Generation Next, leading to AJ Styles hitting ring for the next match.....

- Jimmy Rave defeated AJ Styles in a street fight. Good match. Styles and Rave brawled through the crowd. Rave was busted open after a fast succession of headbutts. Alex Shelley interfered to set up Rave winning with the Styles Clash. Lots of good stuff here. Post match, the Embassy beat down Styles. Roderick Strong and Austin Aries hit the ring trying to make the save but were beat down as well. The Embassy celebrated and left.
Styles shook hands with Generation Next and the fans gave AJ a nice ovation on the way out.

- In the main event, ROH Champion CM Punk wrestled Christopher Daniels to a legitimate 60-minute time limit draw. Following the match, Punk brawled with Daniels and James Gibson, laying out both of them with the ROH title belt. Samoa Joe then hit the ring and brawled with Punk, and Punk ran backstage with the ROH Title.

Sounds like a good ME.

And WTF Alex Shelley?!?!?

Am I the only one that thinks that the Daniels/Punk match could be brutal? By brutal I mean, extremely bad.

Big F'N Swigg - July 24, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
I've seen a review that said it was less than stellar. A lot of stalling, etc.

dynamite kido - July 24, 2005 11:38 PM (GMT)
I think Punk in long matches (besides the Joe series) is pretty bad overall. He tends to be a bit of a mark as far as 60 minute matches are concerned.

Most long matches are pretty bad, or at least overrated.

I'd say that's true, more of today's wrestling than the past, though.

Exactly......

I'd take Flair/Steamboat anyday over any hour long match that RoH has done.

Sting/Flair and Flair/Windham were superior time limits as well.

Personally if I was looking for an hour draw I would watch some 90's All Japan...........but that's just me.

I actually hate hour time limits to be honest. I feel cheated to invest that much time into something that doesn't have a finish.

The Last Free Voice - July 26, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
I can't really add much, but I can say that being there for the first Punk vs. Joe 1 hr. draw was an incredible experiance and something I'll never forget...

Mad Dog - July 26, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
I think the problem with these time limit draws is there are WAY too many people that think "well it went an hour so it must be good."

The Last Free Voice - July 26, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
That I can agree with.

Big F'N Swigg - July 26, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
I think time limits can add some excitement to a match, but draws should only come once every year or more. If at all

Right.

I think the problem RoH could find themselves in is training their fans to expect a time limit after 30 minutes or so. I don't think they want something like that to happen.

Most of the ROHbots would probably dig something like that.
