Just think..... if they're not paying to be on or even getting some money out of it, this could be a turning point for the company.

They are paying, but it is still a move in the right direction. With vastly increased exposure they are sure to increase PPV buys.

Hmm... three years later, TNA might finally become the next ECW, minus the rabid mutant fans and... yeah, the rabid mutant fans.
whitemilesdavis - July 21, 2005 07:31 PM (GMT)
What do you mean by "the next ECW"?
Scrooge McSuck - July 21, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
A glorified indy promotion that everyone jacks off to and is/was broadcasted on TNN/Spike TV.

1. What is the difference between indy and non-indy in your eyes?
2. If you haven't noticed TNA has far more haters on the web than fans.

(looks at TSM... from 2 months ago, and TNA's website) I have to disagree on the second note. People either overrate everything TNA does, or doesn't give them enough credit.
As for Indy and Non-Indy, it's hard to explain. I see an Independent Promotion being one that generally stays in the same area or two, generally graw maybe 100-200 people per show, feature a bunch of no names and maybe an occasional "big" name like Buff Bagwell, doesn't make much money, and really has no fan support outside of the area they are located.
TNA stays in the same spot, but they have a television deal and have fans across the country, but not many. They can't sell tickets, but they can at least get people into the "arena" to make it look like they've sold 1,000-1,200 tickets. They feature a lot of guys who are well known around the country from the Indy's, but they do employ a lot of people way past their primes (Konnan, BG James, The Outlaw to name a few) like an Indy promotion might do. They also have lost way too much money, but they have a financial backer to help pull them through tough times.
Short and sweet: TNA is in between total Indy and Super Indy because the share qualities of a poor Indy promotion but also have the strength of a competitive promotion. It's just a matter of time before they either succeed or finally run out of support financially.

How much are they paying, do you know?

I can't even find any educated guesses on this, but now it does seem that this deal also involves a certain ammount of advertising by Spike, so it may not be a bad deal at all.

So, is there an actual date set for the debut? I'd assume WWE would be on USA before they start?
Mad Dog - July 31, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
10/1 or 10/8 are the dates I've heard from Meltz.
