Title: What WWE Superstars have been around the longest?
Description: Besides the Undertaker
Scrooge McSuck - July 9, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
Since I'm bored stiff and am weeding through garbage tapes to minimize my collection, I was thinking about who has been around the longest. We all know The Undertaker has been actively on the roster for nearly 15 years, counting a few vacations and injured periods.
Shawn Michaels has been employed by WWE for the last 17 years, but for 4 1/2 years he wasn't active, and wasn't even around for 90% of that time.
Hardcore Holly first debuted at the Royal Rumble in 1994, making it around 11 years, including 1 year off with the neck injury and on-and-off appearences in 1997 doing nothing.
Kane is another who has been around for nearly a decade, starting in 1995 as Isaac Yankem (blech), then moving on to being Fake Diesel a couple of months after that, and then turning into Kane after that gimmick failed in 1997.
Val Venis I can't believe has been around for 7 years. Other than the time after the RTC angle where he had nothing to do, I don't remember him not being on T.V.
Christian and Edge also have been around for 7 years, with Edge being out for a year of that though with a neck injury, and Christian being out for 5 months last year.
I'll stop there since I'm running low, but who else has been around a considerable length of time that isn't named "McMahon" or isn't part of the active roster?

Scotty 2 Hotty has been around for at least 7-8 years as well.
Scrooge McSuck - July 9, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
Counting his Jobber days, he's been around since 1993-94, but he's frequently injured, so I left him off. He took 6-7 months off between the change from Too Much to Too Cool, was out for 4-5 months in 2000 with I think an ankle injury, was out another year+ for a neck injury in 2002-2003, and has been injured for the majority of the last 12 months.

Kane actually made an appearance at Survivor Series '93 as the Black Knight on the team lead by Shawn Michaels.
And don't forget JBL. He's been around for about 9 years or so now.
Scrooge McSuck - July 11, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
Even if that was him, it was a 1 night only appearence. He sure as hell didn't wrestle like Kane, and seemed a lot shorter than usual, but whatever. Also didn't his hair hang out? Kane's hair wasn't that style back then. Remember his Unabomb gimmick? He had the curly dirty-blonde look going during that time.

Just form visiting the "Superstars" page on their website, I found these guys:
1- Jerry Lawler. Makes about two in-ring appearances a year, but he's been with the WWF since September 1992, I believe. He was exiled for about a year from 2000-2001 (during which, I actually watched RAW). Almost 13 years, minus his walkout.
2- Everyone's buddy Triple H first debutted in 1995. Over 10 years, now.
3- The Ringmaster debutted in late 1995 and I think he still makes occasional appearances. Over 10 years as well.
4- Does Mick Foley still turn up on TV? If you count him, then he's been around since April 1996. He jumps in and out of storylines, but he's been around for over 9 years, now.
5- Teddy Long came over to WWF as a referee in 1998 (maybe 1997). I don't think he became a manager or vocal personality until 2002 or so. 7 years by my count (anyone know his excact debut? I remember seeing him as the "Godfather of WCW" with Ice Train, as late as 1997)
6- Al Snow first debutted around May 1998. 7 years, but he's another of those "non-fulltime performers"
---okay, this is probably common knowledge to all ya'll...but WHY is Stacy wearing a mask?! I guess she's a "superhero" know? One cool thing about it..she might be able to use the hot-ass Ms. Hancock look as her "secret identity"-- similar to Barbara Gordon in her Batgirl days. I'd tune in for that.
Scrooge McSuck - July 11, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah, WWE paired her up with the Hurricane and Rosey, because lord knows it will help them. (sarcasm) Everyone knows Stacy is just a heat sucking machine. She overshadows everyone she's paired up with.

Jim Ross has been with the WWE since April 4, 1993 @ WrestleMania IX.
Scrooge McSuck - July 11, 2005 09:42 PM (GMT)
Actually, Jim Ross has been fired TWICE between 1993 and 1996, so he's been around 10 years at least.

Nick Dinsmore.
I'm not sure if he counts since he wasn't on-air as Eugene until 2004, although he was doing dark-matches and wrestled as one of the Conquistadors and Doink the Clown in 2003. Not to mention he was in OVW since 1997 or 1998.
Edit: And obviously since he was in OVW he was sent-up at least a few times from 1998-2003 as a nameless jobber.
Scrooge McSuck - July 17, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
OVW isn't the WWE active roster, though. Dinsmore may have been active the longest in OVW (6 years), but when it comes to being on WWE TV, he's only been around full time for 7 months.

Speaking of jobbers, how could over-look a certain someone who works mostly backstage...
The Brooklyn Brawler!
He's been around since the 80s. He wrestled under his real name where he was more of a jobber than he is now, and feuded with The Red Rooster in '89.
Not to mention other obvious name backstage name of Jerry Brisco. (I wanted to include Pat Patterson, but he retired at Taboo Tuesday in 2004.)

Oh sure, when you get technical I suppose. :P
Scrooge McSuck - July 17, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
Other than being a farm system, OVW has no impact whatsoever on WWE TV, which is the entire reason everyone bitches and moans when WWE brings up people like Doug Basham and Damaja, then team them up after being rivals. Why? Because OVW isn't WWE. The only impact WWE has on OVW is it pays the wrestlers and stuff. If you want to get even MORE technical, McMahon wss paying ECW money for a while too, so does that mean anyone that worked in ECW suddenly carries over to WWE?
(incoherent rant over)
