Title: Pitched a one-hitter
S.T. Strickler - June 27, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
Well Scrooge, after taking your suggestion, I went with the Pirates. And in the first game of the season, Oliver Perez pitched me a one hit-complete game. Would've had a perfect game, but Lyle Overbay snuck a good one by me in the 4th inning with 2 outs. Had 9 strikeouts, and had a solo homerun by Craig Wilson, and a two-run homer by Benito Santiago.

I've pitched about 6-7 1 hitters (including a Perfect Game :)) with my Devil Rays team. 3 by Dontrelle Willis alone. He gave up a hit to the first batter, then retired 27 men in a row.
<--was pissed.

If this is MVP '05, I pitched a perfect game a few weeks after it was released with Carlos Silva on All-Star difficulty. He actually went 11 innings too, because I couldn't score a goddamned run, until I walked off with a Joe Mauer homer in the bottom of the 11th with two outs. Good times.

11 innings? Oh man... I don't know if MVP has the same function, but do you have settings for "Pure" Baseball and Custom Baseball, the latter being altered attributes to each team, like possibility of a certain hit, K rate, etc. etc.

I'm rather surprised that I got a one-hitter.. With the Orioles, I usually allowed over 5 hits a game. But what really ticked me off is that I didn't get any MVP points for my profile. I got points for pitching a shutout and some other category, but none for the milestone. So far I've unlocked 118/119 retro jerseys.

In ESPN 2K5, you get points for stuff like this...
"Hold Opponents to 5 Hits or Less"
"Hold Opponents to 3 Hits or Less"
"Pitch a Perfect Game"
So from that, in my game at least, you already got points for it, but not more because of it.

The good luck streak continues for me...
Top 3rd, 2 runners in scoring position, and the shithead batter gets broken bat dribbler. I made the throw to 3rd as my only hope for an out just in time to tag the guy out.
Top of 6th, Carl Crawford makes a wall cimb catch to rob the team of a Home Run.
Dallas Mcpherson finally hits a Home Run, although he's only played 10 games. :P
Crawford is 3 for 3; and Upton is 2 for 2 so far with a HR and Triple.
Edit: Luck ran out, as I just gave up back-to-back Homers. Damn Johan!

...Top of 9th, and Crawford misses a routine fucking fly ball!
After a heart breaking loss in a 15 inning game (my first loss in 62 games), I was on a mission, so let's see how I did...
1st Inning: 8 consecutive hits, 7 ER, Moyer 0.2 IP
2nd Inning: lead off HR (Martinez)
3rd Inning: Lead off triple (Crosby), 3 straight singles (1 ER), Sac fly RBI (Yan 2.1 IP)
5th Inning: TINO MARTINEZ HITS FOR CYCLE, 2 RBI Double (Upton), RBI Single (Cairo) (Knott 1.2 IP)
6th Inning: 3rd triple by Crosby, RBI Single (Raines Jr.) (Osuna 0.2 IP)
BOX SCORE:
CARDINALS 0 1 1
TAMPA BAY 14 24 2
Jake Peavy: 9 IP, 13 K, 0 BB, 1 H, 0 ER

Well, it's not going as planned. I won my 2nd game of the season, 8-1, which is good.. But then I got swept in three straight games by the Padres (6-1, 1-0 (11 innings), and 3-2).. So now I've falled to 2-3, but I've got this feeling that I can bounce back.
Scrooge McSuck - June 28, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
Usually after I lose, I look to beat the ever loving shit out of the other team, like I did in this game. Don't worry though, you'll bounce back. 2-3 record? Pfft... Only another 157 games left!

That's how I saw it a few years ago when I played Tecmo Super Baseball on an emulator (of course, I have the real thing now).. Anyways, with the '94 Orioles, I started out 2-9, but I finished at 127-35.
By the way, it was a four game series against San Diego, so they didn't sweep me. I beat them 6-0, with Oliver Perez pitching a second consecutive complete game shutout and striking out 7 batters and allowing only 4 hits.
