Title: Greatest Tag Team of all time
dynamite kido - June 20, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
I figured I would start some threads here that will drum up a discussion and to actually see opinions from people here for things I don't know about them.
So who in your opinion is the greatest tag team in wrestling history? It could be from any era, any company, any combination.
Personally, I would go with the British Bulldogs. Just the combination of two athletes, one great in the ring, and the other a powerhouse. They wrestled in Stampede, All Japan, New Japan, WWF, etc.
Favorite Bulldogs match......
Toss up between these two.......
-The British Bulldogs vs. Dan Kroffat + Doug Furnas (5/12/89)

I would probably have to go with Road Warriors. The gimmick was cool, they weren't bad at all in the ring (when their match called for it), and Hawk was great on the mic.
Other Candidates would be the Steiners, Bulldogs, Arn & Tully, and Steamboat & Jay Youngblood.

The Road Warriors are my #1 team. They looked intimidating in a World where wrestling was mainly a bunch of guys with no build or a bunch of muscle heads with no gimmick or direction, they were probably the best booked and hardest pushed team with little effort of having to get them over, they were main stays in Wrestling for nearly 2 decades, held all 3 Major Tag Titles (AWA, NWA, WWF), were the blue print for a bunch of rip off gimmicks (rambles on and on).
Second place team... I don't know. My list of teams is either "I like 'em" or "I hate 'em"
Liked Teams:
Steiner Brothers
British Bulldogs
Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson
Hart Foundation
The Rockers
Midnight Express
Rock N' Roll Express
From that list, I'll probably go with the Midnight Express, although I'm basing my opinion on the Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane combination. They both were pretty good wrestlers, worked extremely well as a team, and just had a good look to them. Plus the fact Jim Cornette was their manager is a slight boost.

I loved the Hart Foundation back in the day, but they really weren't around long enough to make any big waves. The Rockers is a fun nostaglic choice, but of course, they "never" even "won" the "titles" so I guess they're out.
And I have a soft spot for the Twin Towers.

It depends on what you, yourself, consider BEST or GREATEST. For technical in-ring expertise and good teamwork, I'd say the original Fabulous Kangaroos of the 60's. For overall mystique and sense of awe, I'd say the Road Warriors. The Roadies brought a definite heavyweight atmosphere to the full-time tag ranks.
If you want to score by teams I simply liked... then Bad News Brown & the Brooklyn Brawler would rank up there.

By the way.......to clear this up.....this is more of an opinion thing here just to see what each poster thinks.....there are no requirements.

British Bulldog and Owen Hart
and, one of my favourites...the unlikely combination of...
Owen Hart and Yokozuna
Scrooge McSuck - June 21, 2005 05:48 AM (GMT)
No offense Plague, but your choice of Owen and Yoko really sucks. Maybe if they ever had good matches, I could see where you are coming from, but when your best match barely reachs a rating of 2-stars, 1 of your guys is barely able to move, and the other is booked further below the card than he should be, then... yeah, that really sucks.
Bulldog/Owen is an example of throwing 2 wrestlers together as a Tag Team, because the Tag Division was drizzling shit in 1996. They were only an official team for maybe 8 months before the Hart Foundation angle grouped all 5 men as 1, which makes it a little harder to swallow.
Of course, it's all a matter of opinion.
prof_plague - June 21, 2005 12:54 PM (GMT)
I know neither were a great tag team and both were thrown together, but for some reason I just liked watch those two tag teams. May be it's just a mark-out thing. Whenever the WWE does that now, I can't stand it, i.e. Regal and Tajiri.
Scrooge McSuck - June 21, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
Except Regal and Tajiri have issues dating back to 2001 when Tajiri was Regals servant and sometimes partner.

I almost forgot about that until you mentioned it.

Incase that post makes me come across as an asshole, that is entirely wrong. I just have a horrible way with wording comments where I say a fact/tidbit that someone overlooked.

No. Not so much that time. ;)

For match quality, no teams can match Kawada/Taue, Misawa/Kobashi, and Misawa/Akiyama.
The Last Free Voice - June 24, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
Road Warriors, no doubt. Hart Foundation is up there too. As far as more recent teams, I quite like Punk and Cabana (although they're no where NEAR as good as the previous two), the Ki and Daniels version of XXX (who never had enough matches together, imo) and I even dug London/Kidman for a while there.

Without question.....they've been in the greatest matches in the history of wrestling.....EVER.

That's fine and dandy, but no court would ever object to my above statement. At least not a court that knows anything....

Damn Puro eliteists....
Kidding. I still haven't gotten past the J-Cups on my little puro "to buy" list. I've spent it all on music.
SamoaRowe - June 30, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
Personally, I think my favorite tag team would have to be Edge and Christian. They were the total package IMO, put on great matches and played really good obnoxious heels. They had great heat.

Just sue me and get it over with.
E&C were just that damn entertaining.
