Title: TNA's Deal with WGN is a no-go
Description: From PWInsider.com
Big F'N Swigg - June 10, 2005 04:06 PM (GMT)
The WGN Superstation out of Chicago, Illinois will not be picking up TNA Wrestling, according to emails sent out by the station's webmaster to fans who had written requesting information about the potential show, which would have aired on Monday nights from 8-10 PM.
WGN's programming department confirmed the information in the emails during a phone call this morning, declining the comment on exactly what caused the negotiations to end without a deal being reached. There is no word yet as to whether TNA or WGN were the ones to walk away from the negotiations, but as TNA moves forward, WGN (at this point) is no longer an option for any potential television outlet in the future.

Well, if it wasn't on before, the Deathwatch is on now....

Well.......TNA is pretty much fucked if they don't have something worked out by Slammaversary.
Scrooge McSuck - June 10, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
It's already been said, but TNA is really fucked. They better go blow the FSN guys or something, because with NO TV, No House Shows, No Nothing, they are just fucked.
dynamite kido - June 10, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
They are still in good standing with FSN, so they COULD go back there easily if they want. They just have to sign another six month deal.....

I was hoping there were going to get that TV deal. Not because I like TNA, but because it might create some sort of competition with the WWE.

In a 100% serious post, they wouldn't be competition for WWE Sunday Night Heat. No one knows who TNA is. At least when WCW was around and started Nitro against a WWF program, people actually knew WCW, which had been a #2 promotion for years, and dated back to the NWA days as far as your memory can go back.
TNA = has like 2,000 real fans who pay for their stuff.
WWE = has like 50,000,000 fans around the world.
prof_plague - June 10, 2005 11:20 PM (GMT)
I know. But at least it would have been something.
Big F'N Swigg - June 11, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
It's sad to see that TNA hasn't learned from ECW's fall. This company NEEDS television. They wouldn't be competition right away, but with a good TV spot they could eventually become competition, much like WCW did. If I were in charge I wouldn't have given up my spot on FSN until after the WGN/Spike show got a good foothold. Bad business decision

TNA would NEVER have been competition to the WWE. I don't really understand when people say that and then compare them to WCW either. WCW was on cable television for at least 10 years before they EVER competed with the WWE as the number one organization in the country.

I think that in 10 years or so, TNA might have been able to be competition to WWE. I don't think they are now, nor do I think they would be just by having a good time slot. It would take about 20 years for a promotion to get close to WWE.

I thought I made that point, but you definitely said it much better than I did. NWA programs had been on cable before the Rock N' Wrestling era of WWF began, and it took them over a decade to become a competition on a national television scale.

The only person I see being able to compete with the WWE would be a Ted Turner supported company. That and a shitload of luck and you may have something. Otherwise, I don't see anyone coming close.
